Capacity building program on children's rights
State Legal Services Authority (SLSA), Chandigarh, organized a two-day capacity building program on children's rights in Chandigarh Judicial Academy in Sector 43 to discuss the Juvenile justice Law and responsibilities of legal aid lawyers. Lawyers and judicial officers were on the panel. The event was opened by justice. Jaswant Singh of the superior court of Punjab and Haryana, also executive president of SLSA. I also had justice Gurvinder Singh Gill , another high court judge and a member of Juvenile justice Monitoring Committee (JJMC). Justice Jaswant Singh talked about how such training play a vital role when it comes to panel lawyers dealing with children related cases on a daily basis. "They also have to look at rehabilitation of children and connect them to various government schemes," he said.
Justice Gurvinder Singh Gill informed that the Juvenile justice Monitoring Committee has the added responsibility of ensuring there is an overall capacity building of all stakeholders and children are not ignored in the society. In the technical session, provisions of Juvenile justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2015 and rules framed along with provisions of POCSO Act were discussed. Also, practical problems being faced by the judicial officers and the lawyers were also discussed during the session.
