J&K police arrest 3 Lashkar terrorists, 4 associates
SRINAGAR: J&K police arrested three on Sunday Lashkar-e-Taiba Terrorists and four terrorist associates from different parts of the valley.
While a terrorist was arrested in Kangan in the Ganderbal district and the other two were arrested in the city of Srinagar, the four associates were picked up from Budgam in central Kashmir, police said. Cases have been filed under relevant sections of the law against the seven.
Fayaz Ahmed Bhat, who was arrested in Kangan, was involved in the terrorist plot thwarted by the Kullan operation in the Ganderbal district on November 12 last year. Investigations discovered that it was Bhat who brought two Lashkar terrorists to Kullan to execute a terrorist plot. While one terrorist was killed in the operation, the other, Nisar Ahmad Dar, had managed to escape. Dar was later arrested at a Srinagar hospital on January 4 of this year, police said.
After Bhat's arrest, a hand grenade made in China was recovered from his possession.
Bhat had organized shelter for terrorists in the town on different occasions and had also transported terrorists from Bandipora to Ganderbal at the behest of their Pakistani handlers, a police officer said.
“The previous record also shows that Bhat was involved in the launch of grenades at the Kangan police station in 2008 and a FIR under the Explosive Substances Act was registered against him. He had been in jail for a considerable period and was also reserved under the Public Security Law, ”the official added.
In the Srinagar incident, police and paramilitary forces intercepted a Santro car on the Barzulla-Chanapora road on Sunday. “While checking the vehicle with two people on board, the police found weapons and ammunition. The occupants of the car, identified as terrorists of Lashkar Vakeel Ahmed Bhat and Omar Ismail Das, both residents of Bijbehara in the Anantnag district, were arrested, ”said the official.
The four associates, whose possession weapons and ammunition were recovered, were identified as Muzamil Nabi, Umer Ajaz (both Kanihama residents), Rouf Bhat and Ishfaq (both Kantebagh residents), police said.
According to the investigations, they were involved in providing logistical support and shelter to active terrorists operating in the Magam area of Budgam.
