Finnish rookie Sami Valimaki wins the Oman Open in playoff

From Finland Sami Valimaki claimed his first European Circuit title on Sunday, beating Brandon Stone in a playoff to win the Oman Open in Muscat

Valimaki and Stone finished level 13 under par in Al Mouj Golf after both shot two below 70 in the final round in difficult and windy conditions on the coast.

The duo halved the first two playoff holes in the 18th par four, but when South African Stone hesitated with a bogey in its third time, the pair was enough for Valimaki to seal the victory.

The 21-year-old, who secured his European Tour card at the Classification School, registered his first top 10 at the Vic Open last month and is now a winner in his sixth appearance on the Tour.

Valimaki took the lead in the final round with consecutive birdies from the seventh hole, but then found a bunker in the ninth on his way to a double bogey.

He roared with four little birds in the last nine, including a 20-foot clutch putt to force the extra holes with Stone.

It is amazing, he said. There are not many words to say. Is incredible.

After the ninth hole, when I made a double, I knew that the tenth hole is good and I had to do birdie on that.

I didn't get a good pair on the 11th and after that bogey I felt like 'it's fine, this is gone'. But then I just made a face, made three birdies and, last, an amazing birdie.

Frenchman Adrien Saddier ranked third after scoring 69 to finish at 12 low while Italian Guido Migliozzi and Finn Mikko Korhonen had a backward shot to share the fourth place.
