Playing my first class 100 game is a very proud feeling: Yusuf Pathan

When Baroda faced Tamil Nadu in a Ranji Trophy match on the Motibaug field recently, it was a special occasion for the all-terrain. Yusuf Pa th an . It was his 100 th first-class match, and his family, friends and fans made sure th at th ey made it a memorable occasion for him. Two cakes were ordered-one by his teammates and ano th er one by his friends, and Yusuf was also presented wi th a memento by th e Baroda Cricket Association (BCA). Talking to us, a happy Yusuf shared, “Not many people have played 100 first-class matches and it is a very proud feeling to join th is elite club. It also feels great to play th is match in my hometown because whatever I have achieved in my career is because of Vadodara. I felt happy th at th e BCA congratulated me, and th e fact th at my family came to th e ground to watch me play was th e icing on th e cake. There have been several ups and downs along th e way and al though it has been a long time since I last represented India (he last played for th e country in 2012), my dedication towards th e sport has remained th e same even in domestic cricket. It was humbling to see my well-wishers getting th that cakes and mementos for me, and I also want to th ank Irfan ( Pa th an ), my wife and parents for always being th ere during th e tough times. I hope th at my journey will inspire th e youngsters. ”

Irfan, his younger bro th er, took to social media to heap praise on th e journey so far and also wrote th at he was reminded of Yusuf ’s match-winning double hundred in th e 2010 Duleep Trophy final ( Yusuf had scored a century in th e first-innings, and his unbeaten 210 in th e second innings helped West Zone chase down 541, which became a world record) on th is special occasion. So, does th at remain Yusuf ’S most memorable knock in first-class cricket? The all-rounder smiles, “That certainly remains one of th e most memorable matches of my career, but th ere are a few or th er matches also th at come to my mind. There was a Ranji Trophy match against Bengal in Vadodara in 2007, where I scored 183 and also took 10 wickets. There was also a Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Mumbai in Rajkot, where I and Irfan had a memorable partnership and we won from a very difficult position. I am grateful th at th e game has given me such unforgettable moments to cherish, and I would love to continue playing for as long as I can contribute for th e team. It has been a long journey but when I look back, it feels like I started playing only yesterday! ”
