We are all receiving updates on the coronavirus that is spreading rapidly through their home country, China, and this is causing fear just as quickly due to information on the Internet and through social networks. Therefore, it is important for everyone, at least to understand what it is, how it spreads, its symptoms and ways to reduce the chances of contracting the disease. What is coronavirus and how does it spread?

Coronavirus is a type of virus like any other common cold virus that causes an infection in the throat, nose or sinuses. They are called zoonotic, which means they are transmitted between animals and humans. It spreads mainly in the same way as other viruses that cause a cold, that is, through infected people who sneeze and cough (droplet infection), physical contact with an infected person or by touching the belongings of infected people.


According to the WHO, signs of infection include fever, cough and shortness of breath. In more severe cases, the virus can cause pneumonia, kidney failure, severe acute respiratory syndrome and even death. The incubation period of the coronavirus remains unknown. It could be up to 10 days.

Preventive measures for coronavirus There is no vaccine for coronavirus. To prevent a coronavirus infection, you should do the same as you do to avoid the common cold. :

• Wash your hands properly with disinfectants or warm water and soap.

• Cover your mouth and nose when someone sneezes or coughs

• Avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever or cough

• Avoid direct contact with live animals and surfaces in contact with animals when visiting live markets in affected areas

• Be sure to avoid eating raw or undercooked animal products

• drink lots of fluids

• stay home and rest

• Avoid self-medication
