Maharashtra: 7 dead, 14 injured in accident near Kalamb

YAVATMAL: In a horrible accident, seven people were killed and 14 others injured when the vehicle they were traveling crashed into a tree on the road on Sunday night.

The accident took place near the village (Khurd) on the Kalamb-Jodmoha road around 5.30 p.m., when a group of people returned after submerging the ashes of a relative.

According to sources, Jodmoha resident Babarao Wankhede died two days ago. After performing the last rites, family members had gone to Wardha district on Sunday morning to submerge the ashes in a river. During the return trip, the Tata Magic driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree on the road killing five on the spot. Due to the impact, the vehicle became a turtle and fell into a nullah.

The villagers ran to the scene and transferred the wounded to Yavatmal GMCH. Five of the unfortunate vehicle passengers who died at the scene have been identified as Amar Atram, Kisan Parasankar and Saraswati Dabhekar. Two of the injured Baby Sonwane and his son Prakash succumbed to the GMCH while receiving treatment. It is reported that the condition of a couple of injured is critical.

The police arrived at the scene and after Panchnama sent the bodies to the GMCH for the autopsy. A cloud of sadness has descended on the town of Jodmoha after the tragedy.
