The fashion fraternity cries Wendell Rodricks: master designer, LGBTQIA + avant-garde and humble human being

The fashion fraternity laments the loss of designer Wendell Rodricks:

I lost a friend and a mentor: Waluscha De Sousa

I lost a friend and a mentor. I was 16 when Wendell discovered me. She was a shy girl from Goa, but he took my hand for everything. Every milestone in my career was for him. He introduced me to the fashion industry and made me work with the best in the business. I packed my first TV commercial in front of Shah Rukh Khan at age 17 because Wendell insisted that he appear for the filming drill, although it was very bad. My first magazine cover also happened because of him. I opened and closed his shows, and he was like a proud father. I will miss it. It cannot be replaced.

He is my son's godfather: Malaika Arora.

I am in shock and very sad. There are too many memories. He is my son's godfather and was instrumental in the configuration of my career.

He was still working on his dreams: Sunil Sethi

I still can't believe we lost Wendell. We have been working very closely and we were planning to do a show together next month in fashion week. Just two days ago I received a message from him about the plan of the show and now he is gone ... He was also working on the project of his dreams Museo Goa Fashion and we had plans to collaborate. The man was still working on his dreams. Indian fashion can never have someone like Wendell again.

He was a master designer: Lakshmi Frog

He was a man with a big heart and an intelligent mind. An icon, a master designer and a warm, genuine, humble and beautiful human being. He will always be my dear friend and we will miss him very much.

Wendell was the most inspiring person: Namrata Joshipura

I still can't believe Wendell died so soon. I have known him for many years and he was the most inspiring person one could know. Just a few days ago, he lost his pet dog and I sent him a message. He would be very sad for the loss of his pets. Wendell was a person who was always full of love and life.

His love for the handloom was unique: Madhu Jain

Wendell and I have been friends for the past 33 years and today it seems so unfair that it is no longer with us. It seems that it was yesterday when he came to Delhi and convinced me to accompany him to see an exhibition of jewels from Nizam. His love and passion for art, crafts and hand loom were unique.

It was always full of new ideas: JJ Valaya

Wendell Rodricks will be an irreplaceable part of Indian fashion. From the presentation of minimalist and avant-garde designs, which were well ahead of their time, to the creation of a museum, it was always full of new ideas and energy. He lent his voice without fear of the causes in which he believed. He always maintained this inner joy, which made him so special. I was happy and happy and this is how I will always remember it.

His contribution to fashion was immense: Ashish N Soni

I am speechless today. Wendell was the friendliest and most talented person in the Indian fashion industry. I am extremely disconsolate with the news of his death. His contribution to Indian fashion, to the promotion of the handloom is immense. He will always be an inspiration to all of us.

Passionate about everything he did: Payal Jain

Only a few months ago I visited his museum in Goa and then we visited his house. All I can say at the moment is that it is very sad and inconvenient. I can only think how loving he always was and how passionate he was about everything he did.

He was my mentor and guide: Rahul Mishra

I remember that a few years ago I had the opportunity to travel with Wendell to Sweden for a show. He was still a nobody and he was a veteran and great designer from India. Every time someone came and talked to him, he told them they should talk to me. That was Wendell. He was my mentor, guide and the most inspiring person I've ever met.

He was warm, wonderful and affectionate: Anita Dongre

Wendell was a great designer. He was a warm, wonderful and affectionate human being. We have been friends for over 35 years. We'll miss you so much, Wendell

He was a very dear friend: Neeta Lulla

Wendell was a very dear friend. In addition to being colleagues, we even teach together at SNDT College, Mumbai, for three years. We spend a lot of time together in the afternoons. A few months ago, I met him at an event, and he looked so healthy and friendly. I'm surprised and sad to hear this news

I am deeply sad: Manish Malhotra

It saddens me deeply to know of his premature disappearance. My condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace

A vanguard for LGBTQIA +: Nachiket Barve

Wendell was always warm and supported the work of young designers. He also came for my last show, and had such words of encouragement and love. He pioneered minimal luxury aesthetics in India and a vanguard for the LGBTQIA + equality campaign. I am shocked and saddened to hear his death
