After hours of tense moments, AAP leader Manish Sisodia pulls out a thriller
NEW DELHI: The contest between the AAP candidate and Ravinder Singh Negi of BJP was a thriller that Sisodia finally came out victorious with a margin of 3,000 votes on Tuesday.
Sisodia, who is also Senior Vice Minister, is seen as the key figure in the promotion of education and medical care in the national capital, was losing after 10 rounds of counting earlier in the day.
His victory has silenced those who questioned his decision to declare his support for Shaheen Bagh protesters in the face of a BJP polarizing campaign.
From the morning, Sisodia sat quietly in a counting booth in his constituency of the assembly calculating the results of different booths. However, after the eleventh round of counting, the advantage over his rival continued to increase.
It is the victory of education, Sisodia said after being declared the winner, greeting his followers with the victory sign. When he left the counting center, he stopped enthusiastically on a vehicle with the flag of the match and waved it.
Then, together with the party workers, he made a small roadshow in the area thanking the voters of Delhi.
The AAP, which had won 67 of 70 seats in the 2015 assembly polls, won another historic victory in Delhi. According to the Electoral Commission, the AAP has already won five seats and A is leading in 58 seats.
The BJP has so far won a seat and is leading in another six in the national capital.
