I've played with tricolor in my heart, says Leander Paes

BENGALURU: India tennis legend Leander Paes On Tuesday he said he is focused on building a future team by 2021 after announcing 2020 as his last year on the court.

My whole team is so motivated to build a new team by 2021. I think there is a time and a place for everything. For me too, all this year of 2020. One last roar 'It's a trip for me too. I'm taking the time to enjoy it, Paes told reporters here.

On December 25 of last year, Paes had announced that 2020 will be his last year on the court. The player took Instagram to wish fans a Merry Christmas and, along with that, also announced 2020 as his farewell year.

In the world we live in, we don't know what tomorrow holds for us, we don't know what awaits us next week or next month. I feel it is important to be in this moment, it is important to do the best and look for excellence in what you do, Paes said.

I have tried to live my style, I have tried to live with my example. For the few children that I can motivate to be the best they can be in any sport or profession, that has been my reason for living my life. Very honest life, he added.

Paes has won eight doubles and ten mixed doubles Grand Slam titles. He received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, India's highest sporting honour, in 1996-97; the Arjuna Award in 1990; the Padma Shri award in 2001; and India's third-highest civilian award, the Padma Bhushan, in January 2014 for his outstanding contribution to tennis .
