Ford opens a technology and innovation center in Chennai

CHENNAI: Prime Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated the automaker on Thursday Ford ’S technology and in Electronics Corporation of ’S Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Sholinganallur in Chennai.

With the launch of the innovative centre, Ford aims to bring forth innovative lab testing procedures for the entire automotive industry like simulation labs for virtual models and testing, extended or virtual reality labs, artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, and component and vehicle lab for design, development and testing.

The Global Technology and Business Center, which covers 28 acres with 2.5 million square feet of space, can house more than 10,000 employees.

Ford India head Michael Brielmaier said, “This centre will be more for vehicles that will be designed and developed out of India but will be produced primarily in India. With the next generation of products coming in and the electric vehicle business occupying a major component of what the Indian government wants us to do, the technology and innovation centre will help us to remain at top of the race.”

Exhibiting one-of-its kind mobility experience lab, Ford said the lab includes simulations for the company ’S Office Ride, an app-based shared mobility for corporate employees, which has achieved more than five million rides since its launch in mid-2018.

An agreement to set up a new Ford Research and Development Centre was signed at the 2015 Global Investors Meet.
