BSP candidate attacked in Delhi, suffers minor injuries

NEW DELHI: The Delhi legislator and candidate, who was previously with him, was allegedly attacked with batons by three unidentified people in the early hours of Thursday, police said.

Sharma, who is the legislator and seeks re-election to the Delhi assembly as Bahujan Samaj Party Candidate, suffered minor injuries.

The attack on Narayan Dutt Sharma is condemnable and shameful, said the head of BSP Mayawati He said on Twitter.

The incident took place around 1 in the morning when he returned home to Badarpur after attending a party meeting. Three men stopped his car, smashed his vehicle and hit him, a senior police official said.

He said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Criminal Code of India. The three men have not yet been caught, the officer said.

Police are analyzing images of CCTV cameras to determine their identity, he said.
