Delhi needs an absolute victory

NEW DELHI: Delhi's cricket has been fighting two battles: the internal struggles in the association and a fragile squad. However, they have managed to place themselves in a place where two direct results in their last two games can take them to the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy .

Both games are at home, and the first one starts against Gujarat in the Ferozeshah Kotla on Tuesday.

Gujarat, one of the more consistent teams in recent years, are at the top of the pile. It's for Delhi to force the game. Historically, in desperate times, home teams have opted for turners. For Delhi, however, things are a bit different. They would prefer a better surface so that their fragile batting does not cave in.

The Delhi team is wary of Gujarat's spinners. They would prefer a pitch that would aide their seamers, sources close to the Delhi team management told TOI.
