IWL: Kolhapur City beat Baroda FA to get the first victory

BENGALURU FC Kolhapur City they recorded their first League of Indian Women (IWL) victory of the season after overcoming Baroda football academy by a score of 2-0 at Bangalore Football Stadium on Monday.

Lhingneilam Kipgen opened the Kolhapur account in the 24th minute before Subhadra Sahu put them in cruise control at the 70 minute mark.

The victory could have come too late, with Kolhapur mathematically out for a place in the semifinal, but Baroda had everything to play for and a victory would have kept them in dispute.

However, his dreams of IWL vanished with the first blow in the 24th minute. Kipgen took advantage of a defensive error and held on to a loose ball. With a flurry of Baroda's legs closing her, she was shot just in time and clinically to the right of the goalkeeper, giving Afshan Ashiq very few possibilities.

Subhadra Sahu sealed the deal in the second half as she showed great instinct to react first to a rebound and followed up to double the advantage for her team.

Baroda did little to commemorate a return when Kolhapur held on to victory. Both teams exchange places in the classification of Group A, with the winners going up to the room with the same amount of points, while Baroda fell one place below the fifth.

Upon entering the final meeting of the group stage, any of the parties will be out of the competition for a place in the semifinal, but they will undoubtedly have a pride to play for.

Subhadra Sahu was adjudged to be the Hero of the Match.
