Low budget, high determination: this is how Kaaal was done

Making a movie is not a bad feat. It requires planning, research, time and, most importantly, budget. But the budget was the only thing that the creators of Kaaal They were short on So, how did the movie become?

It turns out that the writer-director D Sandeep , was so keen on making the film that he roped in like-minded people and all of them decided to pool in money for the budget. But none of us come from wealthy families and whatever amount we contributed wasn’t enough, ”he says. That was when some of his seniors too stepped forward and helped out. “We knew we wouldn’t get support of any big production house. So, my brother and I polled in as much as we could to make the film, ”says Sandeep adding,“ Kaaal is a result of 100 percent teamwork and dedication from everyone involved in it-be it the actor, technicians or anyone else.

In general, a low budget means a commitment in some aspects of the film and, in most cases, it is the technical aspects that carry the worst part. But the Sandeep team, working with the advice of their superiors, was not going to do that. When I showed the preliminary cut of the film to my elders, they told me not to compromise the aesthetic and technical aspects, especially because those are the highlights of a horror movie. We reduced costs, yes, because it was mandatory, but did not compromise the execution of the film, he says.

The team shot through real locations in Pune and its surroundings using synchronization sound, which is a rather difficult task. But they managed to achieve it and the result will soon be there for all to see in January 2020.
