Vikram Bhatt: We allow people to hack our lives

What would you do if someone accessed your data online and started blackmailing it? That is the question Vikram Bhatt The next one, 'Hacked', tries to answer. The filmmaker said he was closely watching Wikileaks, the organization founded by Julian Assange that publishes leaks of news and classified media, and the publication of Edward Snowden account from flying to Hong Kong and staying in a Russian transit hall for 40 days, he touched a sensitive fiber.

“Six years ago, my laptop was hacked and with that, so were my social media account s. I was being notified about friend requests being accepted when I hadn’t sent any, but the scatterbrain that I am, I assumed I may have mistakenly sent them, till a friend pinged me to ask why was I chatting with him on FB messenger when I had his number,” he recounts, adding that he had to change the operating and security systems to deal with the menace.

But that hasn’t helped. On Sunday, Vikram was forced to deactivate his Facebook account again, after he learnt that someone had got through his two-step verification and hacked in. On Instagram, he warned followers that “this is not me”. “We allow people to hack into our lives, it just takes a little knowledge of technology,” he sighs.
