Look: players face a fan who invades the field, causing riots in Brazil

SAO PAULO: A Brazilian derby match was interrupted by a riot on Sunday that began when an amateur ran to the field and was hit on the ground by a player from the visiting team who was accidentally kicked by a teammate.

Avai was winning 2-0 at his local Figueirense rivals in Florianopolis when the video footage showed the shirtless fan running towards his team's bench.

Reserve goalkeeper Gledson dragged the fan before another Avai player, Bruno Silva, kicked the fan, who was now on the ground, but accidentally hit his teammate.

Riot police entered the camp and took the fan along with several others who had managed to overcome the perspex barriers that surrounded the field.

The images showed other Figueirense fans fighting each other on the terraces while several barriers were broken.

Brazilian media said the problem began when Bruno Silva was replaced, insulted by Figueirense fans and responded with a gesture when he left the field.

Both teams play in the second division of the Brazilian league, although Sunday's game was in a regional championship in the state of Santa Catarina. The game resumed after a 20 minute delay and there were no more goals.
