Suspicious terrorist with machete shot dead in London after a spree

LONDON: The armed police shot dead a suspected terrorist with a machete on Sunday afternoon after several people were stabbed.

The metropolitan police described the incident as related to terrorism.

Terrified eyewitnesses described having seen the man carrying a machete and a huge knife chased by armed police and undercover policemen on Streatham High Road just before 2 p.m. and then hearing three shots.

The lifeless man was seen on the pavement in a pool of blood with a large knife next to him and silver boats, possibly a suicide vest, tied to his chest.

A witness described how he saw two or three cars crashing into each other, including an unmarked police car, while the attack was taking place.

A spokesman for the metropolitan police said: “A man has been shot by armed officers in Streatham. At this stage, it is believed that several people have been stabbed. The incident has been declared as related to terrorism.

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris johnson , who was due to return quickly to Downing Street on Sunday night, tweeted: “Thanks to all the emergency services that responded to the Streatham incident, which the police have now declared as related to terrorism. My thoughts are with the injured and all affected.

Graham Norton, strategic commander, said: “They called us at 1.58 pm on February 2 to report an incident on Streatham High Road. We are working closely with the other emergency services and we are treating several patients on the scene. ”

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan He said: “I am in close contact with the Met Commissioner and local representatives, and I want to thank our police, security and emergency services staff for their quick and courageous response. They really are the best of us. Terrorists seek to divide us and destroy our way of life. Here in London we never let them succeed. ”
