SRFI India Tour: Elkabbani of Egypt, Shiha stock market titles
JAIPUR: It was a day of pharaohs in the final of the Jaipur Leg 2020 of the SRFI Indian Tour 2020 on Sunday at Rajasthan Squash Academy like the one in Egypt Ibrahim Elkabani & Jana Shiha claimed the men & women's titles.
Elkabani beat India's best seed Abhishek Pradhan 12-10, 11-3, 4-11, 11-5 to claim the men's title while in the women's final it was an all-Egyptian affair as Jana Shiha , current British junior champion & top seeded, downed her compatriot Salma Eltayeb 11-8, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7 to get the crown.
Although Pradhan fought hard & was quick on the court, Elkabani prevailed over him by virtue of playing better strokes & displaying good court craft & footwork. Elkabani never allowed Pradhan to take control by changing the tempo of the match at regular interval.
Whenever Pradhan increased the tempo of the game, Elkabani upset his rhythm by slowing down him & wrapped first two games with ease. In the third game, Pradhan staged a fine recovery to grab the game 11-4. However, in the fourth, he could not maintain the momentum & surrendered the game at 11-5 in favour of Elkabani.
In the women's final, Jana kept her reputation of the top seed intact by overpowering her fellow Egyptian Salma. Jana had to use all her guile & energy to take the first game 12-10.
In the second, Salma came back strongly to snatch it at 11-9 to level the score 1-1. Although Jana took the next two games & the title, Salma made her work hard for every point, displaying the potential of a future.
