SpiceJet offers only round-trip tickets paid with taxes on the same day so people can vote
NEW DELHI: has launched a program to bring people for free to the city where they can cast their vote. The airline will not charge any fees and citizens will receive return tickets the same day to vote paying only tax in it, under the SpiceDemocracy campaign.
“SpiceJet wants to help all Indians participate in the democratic process, irrespective of geographical boundaries and help voters from anywhere fly back to their hometowns, for free, so they could cast their vote.… SpiceJet is offering hundreds of free tickets to select registered voters on its network, only tax es to be paid by the flier, starting with the upcoming Delhi assembly elections scheduled on February 8. Registrations are opened till February 5, 2020. Free round trip tickets will be offered to flyers willing to return on the same day, February 8. Alternatively, flyers will be offered a one-way free ticket if they plan to fly on February 7 and return on 8th or fly on February 8 and return on 9th,” the airline said in a statement.
Ajice Singh, CMD of SpiceJet, said: “Voting is a large part of democracy and, unfortunately, many of our active population living far from their homes cannot exercise this right. Now, SpiceJet offers Delhi voters an opportunity like never before to fly home to cast their vote. We will take you home from anywhere in India and your tickets will be at our disposal. We hope that with SpiceDemocracy, SpiceJet will help build a stronger and even more vibrant Indian democracy. ”
To take advantage of this offer, eligible voters can visit the website registration page www.spicejet.com/spicedemocracy , they register and share their respective history of what inspires them to vote. Based on the registration, participants will be selected from various geographies and free round-trip tickets will be provided based on their travel dates. Once the flyer casts their vote, they should publish their ink-marked selfies with the #SpiceDemocracy campaign to emphasize that they actually voted and fulfilled their responsibilities. Throughout the trip, participants are encouraged to share their story online to inspire others to let distances not get in their way and fly to vote, the airline said.
