The joy of Sashastra Seema Bal the girls knew no bounds when they lifted the title of the 'B' division of the tenth Senior Indian National Women's Championship in New Hockey Stadium, Asramam in Kollam on Saturday. It was his first national final and first too.

Goalkeeper Alpha Kerketta, the toast of the champions, saved two crucial goals in the shootout to beat Steel Plant Sports Board 3-1. At the end of the 70 minute regulation time, the rivals were blocked.

For a change, it was SPSB who took the lead in the 18th minute Shailja Kumari . Until the final match, SSB's strategy was to attack early and defend itself well. In fact, SSB had scored 44 goals in six games. But in the final, the SPSB defenders were up to the task keeping the SSB strikers Preeti Simar , Manisha Rati and Ranjita Minj in the bay.

However, shortly after the halftime break, Ranjita rang the board in the 38th minute to match. It was his seventh goal, all from the field, of the tournament and became the third leading scorer behind Preeti (12), Manisha (9).

In the four-shot shooting, Manisha, Preeti and Kanika Raj found the network for SSB, and his guardian Alpha thwarted the attempts of Savita, Shailja and Captain Mamta Bhatt of the SPSB.
