Training for officials of the University of Mumbai by a pro-RSS agency suspended in the middle

MUMBAI: A two-day residential workshop organized in collaboration with Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini (RMP), an expert group affiliated with RSS, was suspended midway on Saturday after members of the Senate and NSUI (student body of Congress) of Yuva Sena strongly opposed. the movement. Student organizations have requested the resignation of Vice Chancellor Suhas Pednekar for allowing that body, without experience in education and administrative work laws, to conduct the camp.

The workshop was expected to train and guide university officials in administrative work. They were expected to train them in writing skills, official communication, university laws and regulations, RTI, preparation of answers for the assembly's question and answer session, decision making and leadership skills, etc.

The camp was organized on the RMP campus in Uttan in Bhayander for 30 university officers at the registration assistant level or equivalent level. After the first session on Saturday, at 11.30 in the morning, university officials were informed that the rest of the program had been suspended for technical reasons and they were asked to go home. There was opposition from the members of the Senate, but we don't know why it was canceled midway, an officer said.

The leader of the Congress, Rajeev Satav, brought the matter to the attention of the minister of higher and technical education, Uday Samant. Satav tweeted against the misuse of public funds to benefit an RSS-affiliated body on behalf of the training, said a statement published by NSUI. The university authorities sent a letter to Samant's office informing him of the cancellation.

NSUI demanded an investigation into the matter, as well as Pednekar's resignation. “It is true that organizations and members affiliated with RSS have been appointed in universities during the BJP government. We will continue to fight against the university's saffron, ”said NSUI national secretary Nikhil Kamble.

Pradeep Sawant, a member of the Senate of Yuva Sena, also opposed the measure and questioned how the organization is qualified to train university officials in administrative work. “We have an auditorium in Kalina, there was no need to spend money and take the officers to Uttan. In addition, there was no logic in training our officers under a politically affiliated body, Sawant said, adding that they have also demanded the resignation of the VC.

A university official said the decision to train officers in RMP was made earlier, although they did not specify when. “After adjusting its schedule and availability, the dates were finalized. However, it was suspended due to technical reasons, ”said the official, without specifying why the organization was selected for the training camp.
