The PSG defeats Montpellier by nine men 5-0 to stretch the advantage of Ligue 1

PARIS: Paris St Germain demolished nine men Montpellier 5-0 at Parc des Princes to open a provisional 13-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 standings on Saturday.

Pablo Sarabia Angel Di Maria , Kylian Mbappe , Layvin Kurzawa and a goal in Daniel Congre's own goal put the French champions at 55 points in 22 games.

Montpellier, who had keeper Dimitri Bertaud sent off after 17 minutes with midfielder Joris Chotard also picking up a red card two minutes from time, are fourth on 33 points.

Olympique de Marseille, second classified, travels to Girondins de Bordeaux on Sunday.

We had a good start and after they were reduced to 10 men, it became easier, Di Maria said.

Sarabia put the hosts in front in the eighth minute when he shot a good shot in the upper corner.

Bertaud was shown a red card for handling the ball out of his box.

Di Maria doubled the lead four minutes before the break with a good chip after Sarabia prepared it and Congre turned a corner into his own net three minutes later.

Mbappe scored his 36th goal at Parc des Princes in 34 games in the 57th minute with a fresh finish after being played by Neymar.

Fullback Kurzawa rubbed salt in Montpellier 's wounds in the 65th with a powerful volley from inside the area.

With all three points in the bag, coach Thomas Tuchel replaced Mbappe with Mauro Icardi and the French striker did little to hide his frustration.

Deputy Edinson Cavani thought he had scored his 199 PSG goal in a rare appearance this season, but was ruled out of play.
