Russia will evacuate citizens of China as the number of viruses increases

SHANGHAI: China faced increasing isolation from international travel restrictions and flight suspensions on Saturday, with Russia to start taking off next week, since the death toll from an outbreak of coronavirus was extended to 259.

The epidemic has led to massive evacuations of foreign citizens as global airlines stop flights, and run the risk of exacerbating the slowdown in growth in the world's second largest economy.

The Russia n military was to start evacuating Russia n citizens from China on Monday and Tuesday, Interfax and TASS news agencies reported. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov He was quoted as saying that evacuations would be from the regions most affected by the outbreak.

Peskov first said that evacuation will start on Saturday but later corrected himself. Russia has already reported its first two cases of coronavirus and restricted direct flights to China.

The National Health Commission of China said there were 2,102 new infections confirmed in China as of Friday, bringing the total to 11,791. About two dozen other countries have reported another 137 cases. The death toll increased by 46 to 259, all in China.

Chinese data would suggest that it is less deadly than the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) 2002-03, which killed nearly 800 people of the approximately 8,000 infected, although these numbers can evolve rapidly.
