Siddhesh Wath all ready for his return

NAGPUR: Siddhesh Wath the fiery form of this is likely to win him a place in the Vidarbha eleven when they face Kerala in his next Ranji Trophy home game since February 4.

Law is currently the best runner in the country in the U23 category, excluding Plate Group teams. He has scored 843 runs at an amazing average of 120.43 with the help of four hundred, of which two are twice as many. Its attack rate is 85.93. In addition, he has reached the maximum number of six, 25, in the Nayudu U-23 Trophy.

With Vidarbha middle order struggling for runs, Wath looks certain to make his comeback after two years. The wicketkeeper batsman had last played against Bengal in 2017-18 season but lost his place to Akshay Wadkar , who is now an integral part of the Vidarbha side. Since then, Wath is scoring heavily in the U-23 category. It's not just about his runs but the manner in which he is scoring. Twice he has scored 100 runs in a session, which is an achievement in itself. He is likely to play as a batsman as Wadkar is settled in that role, to VCA source told TOI.

Vidarbha would also miss the services of their premier fast bowler Umesh Yadav , who will go to the National Cricket Academy for the routine exam. Yadav is ready to be part of the Indian Test squad, which will be announced soon, for the New Zealand tour.

Vidarbha lost their last two matches outright to Delhi and Gujarat. Now, they need to win both their matches besides hoping some of the results in the next two rounds go their way. However, they are very much in the hunt despite twin losses. It's disappointing to lose these two matches but we haven't been outplayed. Our team put up fighting performances but we need to do better in remaining two matches, the source said.

Wath's selection would give headache to Under-23 team management but sources said " Ranji Trophy is the top priority". Vidarbha U-23 is certain to qualify for the knock-outs for the second successive year. U-23 players like Mohit Kale, Yash Thakur, Aditya Thakare and Aniruddha Choudhari have already represented the senior side. According to rules, only three current Ranji Trophy players can be part of the playing XI.

"The idea to create this category to help teams improve their bench strength. It's a feeder system for Ranji Trophy . It's great to see Under-23 doing well but Ranji Trophy is our top priority. If certain Under-23 player gets selected, it gives chance to other to step in and deliver the goods. We have many talented players in every category," he added.
