Coronavirus outbreak: 324 Indians evacuated from the Wuhan of China on a special Air India plane

NEW DELHI: Air India's B747 jumbo plane, which evacuates 324 Indian citizens from the new Wuhan, hit by the coronavirus in China, landed here on Saturday morning, authorities said.

The plane arrived in Delhi around 7.30 in the morning, they said.

There were five doctors of Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and an on-board paramedic staff, an Air India spokesman said.

He has established a quarantine facility near Delhi to keep evacuees from China.

Authorities said a qualified team of doctors and staff members would monitor any signs of infection for two weeks.

With 324 passengers, a special flight took off for India from Wuhan. You can arrive in Delhi at 7:30 a.m., the Air India spokesman said at 1.19 a.m. of Saturday.

The flight departed from Delhi airport at 1.17 pm on Friday to evacuate Indian citizens from China, where more than 250 people, none of them Indian, died due to the novel.

On Friday night, the Air India spokesman had declared that another special flight could take off from Delhi airport on Saturday to evacuate the Wuhan Indians.

The death toll from the new coronavirus outbreak in China has increased to 259 and the total number of confirmed cases increased to 11,791 amid intensified efforts by several countries to evacuate their citizens from Hubei Province, the epicenter of the virus , authorities said Saturday.

On Friday's flight, the spokesman had said earlier in the day: A team of five doctors from the RML hospital, an Air India paramedical staff, with prescription medications from doctors, masks, coats and packaged food are on the plane. A team of engineers, security personnel are also there on this special plane. The entire rescue mission is being led by Captain Amitabh Singh, Director (Operations), Air India.

The spokesman added that there were five cabin crew members and 15 cabin crew members on Friday's flight.

Before leaving at the Delhi airport, the President and Managing Director of Air India had said: No service will be performed on the plane. Any food there will be stored in the seat pockets. As there will be no service, there will be no interaction (between cabin crew and passengers).

Masks for the crew and passengers have been organized. For our crew, we have also organized a complete protection team, he added.

A total of five doctors from the Ministry of Health will also go ... The plane will be there (at Wuhan airport) for 2-3 hours, Lohani had said.
