Delhi Times India Showcase Week: a fabulous start to the fashion season
With an impressive display of collections for different occasions, Delhi Times India Showcase Week 2020 (DTISW) 2020, powered by Danj Entertainment and The Bankstreet Jewelers, began Saturday at DLF Promenade (The Hub), Vasant Kunj. The first day was filled with five Kaaisha shows by Shalini Gupta, presented by The Bankstreet Jewelers. Each collection was complemented with dazzling jewels from The Bankstreet Jewelers.
Turn to tradition
From prom dresses to Indo-Western curtains in shades like black, red, gray and pink, the collection titled Venus was about fusion dresses. Although the cuts were contemporary, there was extensive use of Indian embroidery to keep the collection in shape for Indian occasions.
Ode to crafts
The last show was about bright lehengas. According to the designer, each outfit on the ramp was a work of art and much attention was paid to details and embroidery. He also said that the collection was his homage to our centuries-old artisanal heritage. The collection was called Alhifaz, which means to preserve in Arabic.
Stunners in saris
The third showcase was titled Aahm and was the designer's ode to women. It was a six-yard curtain show and the collection featured sari in its different avatars. From fluid georgette to satin and Banarasis, the show incorporated different fabrics. With the work of dabka, the embhamming of resham and the zari, each sari on the ramp represented the craft traditions and techniques of Indian weaving.
The first showcase of the day was the collection entitled Revel. It was a range of celebratory clothing with conceptual saris, fluid shararas and salwar kurtas. With minimal embroidery and a focus on cuts and design, it was an easy-to-use line, perfect for pre-wedding functions and formal events.
