MILAN: United Manchester defender Ashley Young has signed by Inter de Milan in a six month contract with an option for another season, the A series club confirmed on Friday. Ashley Young is officially an Inter player, the club said in a statement.

The 34-year-old man underwent a medical examination in Milan on Friday before completing an agreement that reported a value of 1.5 million euros ($ 1.6 million) plus bonuses.

Today was a beautiful day, thank you all for the welcome. It's an incredible feeling, it's like being part of a family, said Young, who will wear the 15th shirt at Inter.

My message to fans is that we will win again, I have come here to do this.

Young spent the past eight and a half seasons at Old Trafford since arriving from Aston Villa in 2011.

You gave me the opportunity to play with legends, win trophies, work under the best manager in history and be your captain, Young wrote in a farewell message to United.

Thank you for your support during the ups and downs. I'm leaving as one of you, see you soon at the end, he added in a note to United fans.

Young, crowned 39 times by England, made 261 appearances for United and scored 19 goals. He was captain of the club this season, but only started 10 league games.

He won 2013 Premier league title, the FA Cup in 2016 and the League Cup and the Europa League in 2017.

Young leaves United with the team in fifth place, 27 points behind the Liverpool leader before Sunday's meeting at Anfield.

Inter signed with Romelu Lukaku of United last summer and also has Alexis Sánchez lent by the club.

Antonio Conte's side are second in A series , two points behind champions Juventus.

Young becomes the third English player to play for Inter, following in the footsteps of forward Gerry Hitchens, who won the Scudetto in the 1960s, and midfielder Paul Ince, who played for two seasons from 1995 to 1997.
