Toyota will buy more models of Maruti Suzuki to raise the game in the sub-Rs10L category

NEW DELHI: Toyota will increasingly use Maruti and Suzuki products in the lakh-laden sub-Rs 10 car category in India, while focusing on its own product portfolio in the premium and superior range of the market, said a senior official.

N Raja, deputy MD of Toyota Kirloskar Motor He said the company will expand its mainline car offerings through vehicles that come from Maruti suzuki , which will re-credit and sell under its own brand.

The first of the cars with a distinctive crossover, Glanza, was launched on Thursday and this is a revised version of the Baleno. Other vehicles that will be re-installed in the coming years would be the mini Brezza SUV, the MPV Ertiga and the Ciaz de Maruti sedan.

In the sub-Rs 10 lakh segment, we will rely on Maruti and Suzuki products in line with our partnership, Raja told TOI. Toyota will focus more on the premium segments.

The Glanza is derived from Maruti and is also manufactured by the latter with Toyota's badging. While, the vehicle largely retains its original characteristics, Toyota will be sourcing only the petrol version while giving diesel variants to miss.

The Glanza has been priced in the range of Rs 7.22 lakh to Rs 8.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Toyota, which is present in India through a joint venture with the Kirloskar group, is offering the Glanza only in two variants in BS6 compliant 1.2 liter petrol engine with automatic transmission options

Maruti suzuki currently sells its Baleno in petrol and diesel options, priced between Rs 5.46 lakh to Rs 8.9 lakh.
