6 infants die in 13 hours in MP hospital
BHOPAL: Six tribal children died within 13 hours in the hospital between Monday night and Tuesday morning, which caused allegations of negligence.
However, authorities said that all these children were ill and that some had been taken to the hospital in critical condition. There were no medical staff failures, they said. The Minister of Health, Tulsi Silawat, ordered an investigation.
Two of the infants had been admitted there for about a fortnight. Two were in the general ward and the remaining two were in the special neonatal care unit (SNCU) and the hospital's pediatric ICU, sources say. All babies were less than six months old.
Three of the deaths occurred within four hours: at 6.50 p.m. and at 7.30 p.m. A fourth baby died at 3.30 in the morning on January 14 followed by another at 6 in the morning. The sixth death was at 7.50 in the morning.
