Lingard finds a way after reducing social networks, says Solskjaer
London, January 6 (AFP) Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that Jesse Lingard is beginning to regain his form after mitigating his social media activity.
The 27-year-old English international, who had been a prolific user of social networks, was criticized after he posted a raw video on Snapchat last June, so he was disciplined by the club.
Lingard did not score a goal in the Premier League or recorded an assist in 2019 and has only achieved two goals in the last 12 months in all competitions.
However, his coach, speaking before the semifinal of the United States League Cup in the first leg against Manchester City on Tuesday, said the midfielder was returning to form.
Jesse has had its ups and downs as I have spoken before. But let's say the games against (Manchester) City and Tottenham (last month) are examples of how important it can be for us, Solskjaer said.
He is a lively and bubbly character, (but) I don't think you see as much on social networks as you used to see with Jesse. He has a low head, works hard. I have known him a few years ago and he is returning to the Jesse he knew.
The inconsistent United impressed in a 2-1 victory against City in the Premier League last month after beating Tottenham by the same score.
But their results have since been uneven, including the daunting 2-0 losses at the hands of Watford and Arsenal to leave them five points behind Chelsea, which is fourth.
We have to point to actions like that (against the city), Solskjaer said.
When you get on like this, I'm sure they will look back and say, 'That's the Man United we want to see,' but we can still improve on that.
Great games give you energy, make you want to move on to the next level beyond what you might be able to think in your head. Sometimes you are surprised. Solskjaer will give Lingard, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw, who missed the goalless draw of the third round of the United FA Cup in Wolves, and Harry Maguire, who injured his foot in that game, until the last minute to Show your fitness.
