The Ministry of Human Resources meets with officials of JNU, VC Jagadesh Kumar stays away

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Human Resources met Monday with administration officials and assessed the situation on campus after Sunday's violence, even when Vice Chancellor M skipped the meeting.

The meeting was attended by the registrar, supervisor and other administrative staff of the UNHCR who informed the ministry officials about the sequence of events that took place on campus and the measures taken to restore normalcy.

The Ministry of Human Resources had convened an urgent meeting on the violence that took place at JNU.

The ministry had requested an immediate report from JNU registrar Pramod Kumar on Sunday after violence broke out and students and teachers were attacked.

There was a strong police deployment on Monday outside the Shashtri Bhawan here, which houses the HRD Ministry.

A detailed report was sent to the Ministry of Human Resources on the sequence of events. Senior administration officials are in the Ministry to provide all the details that lead to the current situation, JNU Vice Chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar told PTI.

Violence broke out at Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sunday night when masked men armed with sticks attacked students and teachers and damaged property on campus, prompting the administration to call the police.

Many were admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences here with injuries and discharged on Monday. The president of the JNU Student Union, Aishe Ghosh, suffered a head injury.

The JNUSU controlled by the left and the ABVP blamed each other for the violence that continued for almost two hours.

The Union's HRD minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank', urged UNHCR students to maintain the dignity of the university and peace on campus.
