The new legislation passed by Parliament aims to grant citizenship to persecuted religious minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who had taken refuge in India and there is nothing wrong, said the minister of the Union.
When Pakistan was created, the population of religious minorities there was 22 percent. Today it is a tiny 3.7 percent. Persecuted according to their religion, they sought refuge in India. The CAA is intended only to grant them citizenship, he said.
In qualifying the law as a humanitarian, the minister said he was not going to make any difference in the state of Muslims in India and wondered why Congress was making so much noise and crying about it.
The Nishank press conference in Haldwani was part of the BJP's campaign to raise awareness in favor of the amended Citizenship Law.
