The Bhim army chief should be changed to AIIMS, says Priyanka Gandhi Vadra

NEW DELHI: Secretary General of Congress Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanded on Sunday that Bhim's army chief, Chandrashekhar Azad, be transferred to AIIMS.

Azad is currently staying at. He was arrested in December after leading a protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the national capital.

Attacking the BJP, Priyanka said the government's policy of oppressing dissent has reached a point of cowardice.

The government's policy of oppressing all expressions of dissent and protest has reached the point of cowardice. The lack of basic humanity in their actions is shameful. There is absolutely no reason to keep Chandrashekhar in jail, much less deny him medical treatment if he is not well. It should be sent to AIIMS to be treated immediately, he tweeted.

A case has been registered against Azad under Sections 147 (punishment for disturbances), 148 (riots, armed with a deadly weapon), 149 (illegal gathering), 186 (obstruction of the public servant at discharge from the public), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and other relevant sections of the CPI.

Protests have erupted across the country against the CAA, which grants Indian citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and country refugees from Pakistan , Afghanistan and Bangladesh, which entered India on December 31, 2014 or earlier.
