Ash Barty gets a difficult draw at his local Brisbane tournament

Brisbane, January 4 (AP) Ashleigh Barty, number 1 in the ranking, will start the new year with a difficult draw at Brisbane International. She is one of the six Grand Slam champions in her half of the draw. There are three others in his room at his local tournament.

The defending champion of the Australian Open, Naomi Osaka, who is on the other side of the draw, has a first round match against Maria Sakkari.

Barty will have a goodbye in the first round before a possible second round match against five-time main winner and wild card entry Maria Sharapova, who plays a qualifier in the first round.

Barty won his two games against Sharapova in 2019, even in the fourth round of the Australian Open.

If Barty reaches the quarterfinals, the French Open champion could face the US Open champion. UU. 2017 Sloane Stephens or the two-time Wimbledon champion and fifth seed Petra Kvitova.

Three-time main winner Angelique Kerber and 2011 US Open champion Sam Stosur, who are also in the middle of Barty's draw, face each other in the first round.

The draw was held on Saturday when Kiki Bertens, who will play doubles with Barty in Brisbane, said the WTA Finals champion seems to be enjoying life on top.

I was impressed (by his promotion) but, to me, it was no surprise, Bertens said about Barty. I think he is handling everything well. And he is also a good person. I think she is the best player right now and she is having a great time. (AP) APA APA
