Bangalore: Techie goes to court after his fiance throws him by the long nose
BENGALURU: Two technicians who got married this month separated after the American woman said her fiancé's nose was deformed and insisted that she undergo plastic surgery to correct it.
In search of justice, the boyfriend approached one, who ordered the registration of a criminal case against the woman, her sister and her father.
In his statement, Ramesh (name changed), 35, software engineer at Koramangala 6th Block, said he met Rashmi (name changed), 35, through a marriage website in the first week of August. Resident of HSR Layout, worked in the United States.
Ramesh said he was in contact with Rashmi online and after a while, they decided to get married.
“On August 13, she arrived in the city. After lunch at a star hotel on MG Road, we decided to fix things. As requested by Rashmi, I met his older sister Lakshmi and obtained his consent. On August 26, my parents met Rashmi's parents at his HSR Layout residence. On September 9, we got engaged at home, ”said the complaint.
According to Ramesh, on the day of the engagement, Rashmi told his father that the wedding should be held at the Tirumala temple in Tirupati. “My father asked him to change the place to Bangalore since most of our relatives stay here, but Rashmi insisted that the ceremony be held in the temple. Finally, we agreed, ”he said.
Consequently, the wedding was arranged on January 30, 2020. “I visited Tirumala to book rooms and make other arrangements. I paid Rs 1 lakh in advance for 70 rooms and catering. I spent Rs 4 lakh on buying clothes and gifts, ”said Ramesh.
Rashmi flew back to the United States to join the job. However, he changed his mind during October and decided to suspend the wedding, Ramesh said.
“At some point in October, Lakshmi called my father and told him that Rashmi wanted to cancel the wedding. I was shocked. On October 23, I called Rashmi. He received the call and sarcastically said that my nose was long and deformed. She said I should have plastic surgery, ”he said.
Ramesh called Rashmi again. “His answer was the same. She hurt me every time I called her. Finally, she blocked my number. Now, none of his family members are receiving our calls, ”Ramesh said in the complaint.
Accusing her of having cheated on him and suspecting that he had cheated other men in a similar way, Ramesh approached the court and filed a private report of complaint (PCR). Under the direction of the court, Koramangala police on December 31 recorded a criminal case against Rashmi, Lakshmi and his father under sections 417 and 420 of the IPC for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of goods.
A senior police officer said they need evidence to prove Ramesh's accusations. “Ramesh has to establish the fact that Rashmi canceled the wedding with the intention of deceiving him. Only then can we file a charge sheet accusing her of cheating and causing damage to Ramesh and her family, ”he added.
But if Rashmi confirms that he effectively canceled the wedding because of Ramesh's nose, we can't do much in the case, he said.
