Chhetri, Bangalore are up to the task

Bangalore, January 3 () Bengaluru FC continued its supremacy over FC Goa with a 2-1 victory in an exciting India Super League match on Friday.

After a first half without goals dominated by visitors, Bengaluru took the lead through Captain Sunil Chhetri (59 ').

Goa matched through Hugo Boumous (61 ') just to see Chhetri grab the winner in the 83rd minute, which was Bengaluru's fifth victory in seven ISL games against Goa.

The result is that Bengaluru rises to second place with 19 points in 11 games, only two less from FC Goa who continues to lead the table.

It was the visitors who saw more of the ball and probably created an opening. However, Bengaluru first tested Mohammad Nawaz in the 11th minute after Rahul Bheke cut inside from the left, but his attempt was rejected.

In the middle of the middle, Boumous got into the crux of the action as he passed some blue shirts to enter the box, but Albert Serran almost won the ball.

However, Ferran Corominas picked up the pieces and went to the two central Bengaluru, only by a timely intervention by Bheke to eliminate the danger.

In the 35th minute, from a short corner, Nawaz patted Nishu Kumar's long journey with Mandar Rao Dessai picking up the pieces.

Lenny Rodrigues had the best opportunity in the first half as he was in a one-on-one situation with Gurpreet, but the goalkeeper went out of his line to clear and keep the score at 0-0.

Bengaluru began to make his way into the game after the restart as the pace of the game increased. The Blues attackers found plenty of space and bothered Goa's defense on some occasions before taking the lead in the 59th minute.

Chhetri was left unmarked when Dimas Delgado picked him up from a corner. Nawaz let his powerful header in and couldn't get down in time to keep the ball out.

However, Goa responded in two minutes. Boumous took matters into his own hands with a run on the left before exchanging passes with Mandar and Ferran Corominas. A skillful touch of Corominas sent Boumous to the finish line and ended with poise to put the 1-1.

The nature of ups and downs of the game continued with both sides looking for the winner. Erik Paartalu saw a header from a corner flying very high while Jackichand Singh found space to shoot inside the area, only to shoot wide. However, it was Bengaluru who caught the winner in the 83rd minute after FC Goa failed to clear his lines during a Bengaluru counter. After both Seriton Fernandes and Mandar failed to clear a pass from the deep, Chhetri pounced and ran away before reaching a good finish beyond Nawaz to seal the three points for Bengaluru. AH AH
