Aston Villa suffers double blow injury

London, January 3 (AFP) Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton and striker Wesley have been ruled out for the rest of the season, the Premier League club announced Friday.

Record signing Wesley and Heaton were injured during the 2-1 victory of New Year's Day at Burnley.

Since then, it has been confirmed that both players have suffered knee ligament damage and Heaton seems to miss England's Euro 2020 campaign.

Heaton, 33, and Wesley were in their first seasons as Aston Villa players after their arrival in summer from Burnley and Club Brugge.

Wesley 23, has scored six goals in 22 appearances in all competitions and won a call for the Brazil team.

Villa chief Dean Smith will hold transfer talks with chief executive Christian Purslow after losing the players.

We have a planned business, that will continue, I'm sitting tonight with Christian and (the sports director) Suso to see what this changes for us. It will accelerate what we do in the market, said Smith. before the third round trip of the FA Cup on Saturday to Fulham.

The recruitment side will not change from what we were seeing before. Villa is currently in 17th place in the Premier League, just one point away from the relegation zone. (AFP) ATK ATK
