The president accepts the resignation of VC from the University of Allahabad; orderly investigation of complaints of irregularities
NEW DELHI: The president accepted the resignation of the vice chancellor of the University of Allahabad, Rattan Lal Hangloo, and ordered an investigation into allegations of financial, academic and administrative irregularities against him, officials from the human resources ministry said Friday.
His resignation was sent to the HRD Ministry, they said.
Hangloo had resigned on Wednesday.
Hangloo had resigned as vice chancellor of the University of Allahabad for personal reasons. The president accepted his resignation with immediate effect.
The president also ordered an investigation into allegations of financial, academic and administrative irregularities, including recommendations contained in the provisional report of the National Commission for Women regarding alleged misconduct against Hangloo, said a senior official of the Ministry of Human Resources
Hangloo has been under the scanner since 2016 for alleged financial and academic irregularities.
It was also convened by the National Commission for Women last week for accusations of improper handling of complaints of sexual harassment and lack of grievance repair mechanism for students.
I resigned because unfounded investigations were initiated against me. On several occasions, it was shown that there was no substance in the complaints. I quit because I was completely fed up, Hangloo had said in a statement, announcing his resignation.
He was appointed vice chancellor of the University of Allahabad in 2015.
He had previously served as vice chancellor of Kalyani University in. However, he had resigned from the post after a series of fights with the state government and university employees.
