Dhrubo will start shooting with Dev later this month
Dev whose last Sanjhbati is running successfully in theaters will soon have the role of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari , the man called the father of Indian football, in Dhrubo Banerjee Long awaited movie ‘ Golondaaz ’.
“I have been trying to rediscover the pride lost in the Bengalis. People know about the Bengali revival, but they are not aware of this man's contribution. He is completely forgotten. My movie is not a biographical movie, but a means to create a movie based on Nagendra and the times. Every Bengali should know about him. The current generation does not know much about Sarbadhikary, how he introduced the game and popularized it among the Bengalis. My film will weave the story with references to real-life events, ”said an excited Dhrubo whose two films in the Guptodhan franchise were runaway successes.
The director is also pretty much impressed to see Dev’s eagerness while practicing the game with former Indian football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia for the film.
“Bhaichung is a tough taskmaster and I am grateful to him. I am practicing under his watchful eyes every morning. Though it is physically taxing, I am enjoying every moment, ”Dev had said earlier.
This film will also mark Dev’s return to SVF after the 2017 blockbuster ‘Amazon Obhijaan’. For years, they have ruled the commercial space of Bengali cinema and now the hit jodi is set to weave magic yet again. Interestingly, Dev has never been part of a football movie.
While pre-production work is already underway, the period drama will be filmed in Kolkata and its surroundings. The shooting will begin later this month.
Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari was the founder of many sports clubs in Kolkata in the 1880s.
