Woman accuses rape police in Odisha

PURI: A married woman accused a police officer of raping her at her residence under the pretext of resolving a case against her family, a senior minister said on Friday.

The woman filed a complaint with the subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Thursday night.

The defendant ASI is posted at the Balanga police station and an investigation has begun, he said.

Pipili SDPO is investigating the matter, said Odisha Minister of Internal Affairs, DS Mishra.

Measures against the police will be taken based on the SDPO investigation report, Mishra told reporters here. Meanwhile, the police have arrested the accused ASI for questioning.

The woman in her complaint alleged that the ASI raped her at her residence three months ago on the pretext of resolving a case against her family, a police officer said.

The 30-year-old woman also claimed that ASI had threatened to put her behind bars if she opened her mouth.

The Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of P Arun Kumar Jena is monitoring the investigation process.

Recently, police had arrested six people, including a former police officer Jitendra Sethi, accused of rape in group of a minor girl in Puri village.

Police have filed a charge sheet against the defendant within 20 days after the incident.
