Photos: cold winds sweep Uttarakhand; snowfall in higher reaches
DEHRADUN: Mercury fell in most of the state of the Himalayas as cold winds whipped throughout the day on Thursday in Dehradun and other areas. While the plains witnessed the rain, the upper reaches received a snow spell. Munsyari in the district of Pithoragarh and Auli in Chamoli, in particular, were covered with a white blanket that made tourists in these places rejoice to experience the first year of the year.
Sucharita Dasgupta, a tourist from Kolkata, who had come with her family to Munsyari, said: Seeing the snow-capped mountains in front of our eyes was something we will never forget.
Met's department has also forecast similar conditions for the next few days. According to meteorological experts, during the next week, the hours of the day are expected to remain under the control of the cold wave and moderate rainfall is expected on January 6, 7 and 8.
The director of the regional weather center Bikram Singh told TOI: “There will be a new temperature drop in the next few days. As of January 6, the state is expected to witness moderate rains in most parts. Cloudy conditions would also prevail. It is likely that there is only a respite from cold weather conditions from January 10 onwards. ”
