Iltija Mufti says arrested by police after trying to visit the grave of former J&K CM Mufti Sayeed
SRINAGAR: Iltija Mufti, daughter of the president of the PDP Mehbooba Mufti On Thursday he said he was stopped by police at his residence here after he tried to visit the grave of his grandfather and former prime minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the south of Kashmir
Iltija, a protégé of the Special Security Group, said he had asked permission to visit his grandfather's grave in the area.
They arrested me at my house and did not allow me to move anywhere, Iltija told PTI.
However, the Additional General Director of Police (Law and Order) Munir Khan denied that Iltija was arrested and said the Ananantnag district administration did not authorize his visit.
We also have to keep in mind that she is an SSG protégé who has to take police authorization before visiting anywhere, Khan added.
Barricades have been erected at Gupkar road which leads to the 'Fairview' residence belonging to Iltija's mother and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is under preventive detention since August 5 when the Center announced the decision to abrogate provisions and bifurcate the erstwhile State into Union territories.
Police did not allow mediators to reach the residence and the road was open only to security personnel and residents of the city's high security area.
Sayeed, the two-time prime minister of Jammu and Kashmir, died after a brief illness on January 7, 2016.
I wanted to go visit my grandfather's grave. It's my right. Is it a crime for a granddaughter to visit her grandfather's grave or do they think I'm going to organize the throwing of stones or a protest there, Iltija said.
He accused civil and police administrations of being arrogant, claiming they don't want peace in the Valley.
