80th interuniversity athletics of all India meets in Moodbidri from January 2
MANGALURU: the 80th interuniversity of all India Athletics The '19 -20 championship will begin in Swaraj Maidan, Moodbidri, near here from January 2.
Organized by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore under the auspices of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the Alva Educational Foundation, the five-day meeting will involve more than 300 universities from all over India and 4500 athletes, including 2890 men.
Dr. S Sacchidanand, vice chancellor, RGUHS, told the media on Wednesday that the university that organized this meeting twice in the past: the 72nd meeting in 2013 and the 75th in 2015 will organize this meeting for a third record time. This underlines the ability of the university in sports, he said, adding that to mark the same, the university has introduced the mixed relay for the first time in the history of this meeting. In total, there will be 23 events each for women and men.
In addition, the university introduced the online registration for the meeting that saw more than 80% of the participating universities make use of it. The international standard photographic finishing equipment, free food for athletes and officials and transportation facilities for them is also the hallmark of the event, he said. The full calendar of events has been published in advance to ensure transparency for both athletes and the officials involved, he said.
While the first day of the meeting you will see two medals decided, the winners of 12 events will receive medals on Friday, nine events on Saturday, 10 events on Sunday and 14 events on Monday, the last day of the meeting. The marathon that is also held for the first time for men and women will be held on Monday. The fastest man and woman in the match will be decided on Friday.
