'Internet services in hospitals in the valley have not yet resumed'
SRINAGAR: Broadband services for hospitals in the Valley would not be resumed on Wednesday even though Jammu and the government promised their restoration a day ago.
The official government spokesman, Rohit Kansal, said Tuesday that broadband services in hospitals and SMS services on postpaid mobile phones would be restored at midnight.
While SMS services have been restored to some extent, Internet facilities have not yet resumed.
The main government of the Valley, administered by the government here, does not have Internet facilities for almost five months.
An SMHS hospital administration official said that internet services at the medical institution were not restored on Wednesday.
“Internet is not working. The services have not yet been restored, he said.
The official said the hospital administration had asked the authorities to provide the internet services and that he expected the services to be restored on Wednesday.
We expected it to happen today after the announcement of the government, but so far it has not happened, he added.
At the GB Pant hospital, which is the only children's hospital in the Valley and deals with a large number of patients, the services have not yet been restored.
“So far, the Internet does not work. It can be restored later, but services have not yet been restarted in the hospital, said hospital medical superintendent Kanwaljeet Singh.
An official from Jawahar Lal Nehru hospital in Rainawari also said that internet services were not restored in the hospital.
The same was the case at the Thorax Disease Hospital in the Dalgate area of the city.
The only hospital in the Valley where the Internet worked was the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, but the service was restored there in the month of October last year.
“Internet services in the hospital are working. We have a private leased line internet service that was restored at the end of October, ”said Farooq Ahmad, the SKIMS superintendent engineer.
People have demanded the immediate restoration of internet services in the valley, especially in hospitals.
“In the current era, when everything is digital, the Internet plays an important role. The absence of the service is creating many problems for both patients and doctors and has hindered medical care, ”said Mudasir Lone, a patient at SMHS hospital.
