Appointment of transcendental and historical CDS for India: Amit Shah

NEW DELHI: Minister of Interior of the Union Amit Shah said Wednesday that the appointment of the first Chief of Defense Staff () was momentous and historic for India and will promote the Narendra Modi Government efforts to ensure the well-being of the personnel of the three services of the armed forces.

In a series of tweets, Shah also said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has fulfilled yet another long-pending demand with India getting its first CDS.

On Monday, the general was appointed the first Chief of Defense Staff of India with the mandate to achieve convergence in the operation of the country's Army, Navy and Military Force. He took over as CDS on Wednesday.

The Chief of Defense Staff will not only promote the efforts of the Modi government to ensure the well-being of the three-wing personnel, modernize our army and fulfill the aspirations of a #NuevaIndia.

A momentous and historic day for India when Prime Minister @narendramodi ji meets another long-standing lawsuit and India gets its First Chief of Defense Staff. I am sure that this decision will further strengthen India's determination to be among the best defense forces in the world, Shah said.

The Interior Minister also congratulated General Bipin Rawat for assuming the position of India's first CDS.

I am sure that under your leadership, the three forces will work collectively as a team and will not leave stone unturned to secure our nation against all odds, he said.
