Ranji Trophy: Chandela, Frog rescue raffle for Delhi
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: First match Kunal Chandela and Nitish Rana rescued a commendable draw for Delhi with sandy centuries after continuing against Kerala in their first Rani Trophy match on Thursday.
Resuming on day four to 142 for one, Delhi was watching a loss in the innings, but Chandela (125 of 219) and Rana (114 of 164) made sure his team got a point from the Group A game.
Delhi, which was set for 142 on a decent batting surface, made a much better batting effort after the follow-up, finishing its second inning at 395 for four of 112 in excess.
On the third day, Anuj Rawat (87) and Chandela had put up a 130-race stand for the opening wicket.
On the fourth and last day, Chandela and Rana added 118 runs to the fourth gate to frustrate the opposition.
Kerala had a much needed breakthrough early in the day when the star of the first innings Jalaj Saxena removed the pattern of Delhi Dhruv Shorey (20). After that, it was all Delhi when Chandela and Rana got stronger. Chandela hit 11 legs in his forced hit while Rana broke four six and 11 limits.
Jonty Sindhu (30 not out) and Lalit Yadav (13 not out) were in the middle when the game ended.
Delhi will face Andhra in Ongole starting December 17.
In Jaipur, Punjab closed the game with 10 wickets by throwing Rajasthan for 168 in his second inning.
Needing only 68 to win, Sanvir Singh (26 not out of 42) and Shubman Gill (36 not out of 28) completed the work in 11.4 more.
