Unnao rape case: key developments

NEW DELHI: The rape victim of the Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh, was flown to Delhi and admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after she was allegedly burned by five people, died Friday night. His death left the entire nation shocked and indignant. Opposition parties trained the weapon in the state government for not enforcing law and order in the state. Here is a look at the main developments of the day:

Akhilesh demands Yogi's resignation

Former Uttar Pradesh Prime Minister Akhilesh Yadav called it a Black Day and called for the resignation of Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath.

This is an extremely damnable incident. This is a black day. It is not the first incident of this kind under this BJP Government. CM had said in this same assembly, 'apradhiyon ko thok diya jayega', that they could not save the life of a daughter. Until the day when the Uttar Pradesh prime minister, the secretary of state and DGP do not resign, justice will not be done, he said.

The Uttar Pradesh government establishes a fast track court

On Saturday morning, CM Yogi Adityanath said a fast-track court will investigate the case and also called the victim's death extremely sad.

All accused persons have been arrested. The case will be taken to a fast-track court and punishment will be imposed, he said in a statement issued here.

The victim's father demands justice.

The victim's father said he demands justice in the lines of the Hyderabad case. I want to see defendants persecuted and shot dead, he said. I don't want money or any other help. I want to see that the defendants are persecuted and shot dead like the Hyderabad meeting or hanged.

When asked if anyone had come forward to guarantee them justice, he said that neither the MLA nor any official have tried to help them.

One day ago, four defendants in violation of the murder of a veterinarian in Hyderabad were killed in a police meeting.

Mortal remains taken from Delhi to Unnao

On Saturday morning, the victim's mortal remains were taken to his village in Unnao, from Safdarjung hospital in Delhi.

Priyanka Gandhi hits the government

The Secretary General of Congress, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, questioned the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday why the victim of Unnao group rape did not receive security considering a similar incident that took place previously in the same district.

Why was the victim of the Ungrao Gangrape case not given security in the light of a previous Unnao incident? What measures have been taken on the police officer who refused to register an FIR? What measures is the government taking to stop the crime against women, which take place daily? She said in a tweet.

BSP chief Mayawati demands justice

The BSP supreme, Mayawati, asked the UP government on Saturday to guarantee adequate justice to the family of those who succumbed to severe burns at the Delhi hospital.

The UP government should take a special initiative soon to provide adequate justice to the victim's family. This is the demand for justice and people, he said.

On December 5, five men were arrested after a Unnao rape survivor was set on fire while she went to court to attend her trial. The five arrested included two of the defendants in the rape case.

The victim suffered 90% burns.

The victim alleged that Shivam and Shubham Trivedi had kidnapped and raped her in December 2018. However, the FIR was registered in March.
