On the beat with: Theepetti The Band
They believe in illuminating the environment with their music and that is why they call themselves: Theepetti The Band . Celebrating a year of its existence this month, the band members are between 18 and 22 years old.
The band comprises - Adithya RK and Namratha in the voices, Megnus Motchath as drummer, guitarist Jaiyson P , Rithesh Pillai in keys, bass player Bharath Boat , Akkarsh violinist and Manoj Kumar plays the role of manager in the band. It’s been a great year of singing, performing and taking parts in culturals, music contests and winning most of them. Recently, they emerged as the first runner-up in the light music category of ‘Cable Tour’.
“Ever since we got along, we have been performing in almost every college concert and have won in 90 per cent of them. Though our major focus has been light music, we have been exploring and experimenting with almost every genre, considering the unique talent we have got in our bandmates. We do not just sing in Tamil and English, but also in Hindi. I think this amalgamation of talent pool that we have created makes us do that. Also, our Akkarsh violinist has been doing playback for Tamil movies and his experience really adds on to the versatility of the band,” shares Adithya.
Speaking about the band and the music scene in the city, team Theepetti feels there are a lot of friendly bands in and around Chennai, who are always up for sharing a platform to jam together, learn from each other and even give honest feedback to help do well in the field. “Having said that, there’s a lot of competition and it’s a tough market to survive. But what is helpful for college students who like to do music is that they get a lot of exposure during their time in college and that creates a path for them. As a band to survive, all we got to do is make good music and be hopeful that it will attract many ears,” adds Adithya.
At present, Theepetti The Band is working on their own compositions and they are expecting their upcoming originals to be released by January end 2020. “We are coming up with cover songs with videos and we are done composing one, titled Iyarkai (nature). It has a lot of instrumentals and is a mix of indie and jazz genre in Tamil.”
