More than 1,000 fast track courts will be created for rape cases

NEW DELHI: The government told Parliament on Friday that it has formulated a scheme to establish 1,023 Quick track Special courts (FTSC) for an expedited trial and elimination, including that of minors.

In a written response, the women's and children's development minister said the scheme would cost Rs 767.25 crore to state and central governments.

The Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, has formulated a Scheme, in line with other Centrally Sponsored Schemes, to establish a total of 1,023 Quick Track Special courts (FTSC) for the expedited trial and the elimination of cases of rape and cases under the Law on Protection of Children against Sexual Offenses (Pocso), said a statement of GDP.

The minister told Parliament that the central government would contribute Rs 474 million rupees to establish special courts under the scheme.

It has been proposed to establish 218 FTSC in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The Government's decision in this regard is expected, he said.
