Humanity launches drugs for pregnancy-related complications

MUMBAI: Mankind Pharma launched a drug containing didrogesterone, for the treatment of infertility and pregnancy-related complications. Approximately every fourth woman suffers from problems related to pregnancy.

The president and founder of the Mankind group, RC Juneja, said that the launch of Abbott's generic version of Duphaston is an important milestone, since its manufacturing process is complex and its development involved about nine years.

Mankind Pharma is the first domestic company, and second globally to develop the drug and make it available at an affordable price, a company statement said.

Progesterone it's a natural hormone involved in the menstrual cycle , implantation and successful maintenance of pregnancy. Any progesterone deficiency during the different stages of the reproductive process can cause infertility, menstrual disorders and spontaneous abortion. Didrogesterone has a molecular structure similar to natural progesterone, but it has improved bioavailability and fewer side effects.

A team of 400 scientists from the Mankind Research Center took approximately nine years to develop this medicine, which is the only one retroprogesterone commercially available
